We all know the struggle! Tiny socks in every corner, half-built LEGO creations, and a mountain of “art projects” from three years ago. Decluttering a child’s room can feel like an endless battle, but it doesn’t have to be!

Keeping a child’s room tidy can feel like a never-ending battle, but with the right strategies, you can make it easier (and even fun!). Here’s how:

1️⃣ Declutter Regularly

✅ Use the one-in, one-out rule: When a new toy or clothing item comes in, one goes out.

✅ Involve your child in decluttering by making it a fun challenge (e.g., “Find five toys you don’t play with anymore!”).

✅ Rotate toys: Store some away and swap them out every few months to keep things fresh.

2️⃣ Smart Storage Solutions

Baskets & Bins: Label them with words or pictures for easy clean-up.

Under-the-Bed Storage: Great for off-season clothes or extra bedding.

Over-the-Door Organisers: Perfect for shoes, small toys, or accessories.

Low Shelving: Helps kids put things away on their own.

3️⃣ Daily Reset Routine

✅ Set a 5-minute clean-up timer before bedtime – make it a game!

✅ Create a habit of putting things back after use (start small, like books on a shelf).

✅ Have a dedicated “mess zone” for playtime, so everything doesn’t end up everywhere.

4️⃣ Label & Categorise

✅ Use picture labels for younger kids to easily find and put away items.

✅ Sort by category: Books, stuffed animals, building blocks, dress-up clothes, etc.

✅ Colour-coded bins work great for quick sorting.

5️⃣ Make It Fun & Rewarding

✅ Turn cleaning into a race: “Let’s see how fast we can put all the cars away!”

✅ Reward with sticker charts or a fun weekend activity for keeping the room tidy.

✅ Let kids personalise their space so they feel ownership and responsibility.

6️⃣ Limit the Clutter at the Source

✅ Be mindful of how many new toys and clothes come in.

✅ Encourage experience-based gifts (like trips or activities) instead of more “stuff.”

✅ Regularly donate or pass down outgrown items.

Bonus Tip: If your older child struggles with clutter, involve them in decision-making. Ask, “Which stuffed animals do you love the most?” instead of just decluttering without them.
